MultiFinger Input

October 2011

MultiFinger Input focusses on an innovative interaction concept which allows users to explore digital projects on a multi-touch table. By using a five-finger navigation technique the user can filter from a multitude of projects and navigate within an opened project on the table.
When a hand is placed on the table’s surface, options to filter out content appear around every single finger to reduce the number of projects. An option is selected by leaving one finger on the surface and lifting the other four. With removing the last finger, the filter option is being confirmed and the projects which do not match the selected criteria will fade out. Placing the hand on the table again allows the user to navigate a level down.
In contrast, within an opened project not every single finger represents a menu item, but a group of fingers will guide the user through the project’s contents. For example, by laying two fingers on the surface, the user will navigate to the project’s pictures or with three fingers the video section will be shown.
