winter semester 15/16

These are the results from the winter semester 2015/2016. The seminar was split into 3 projects.

  1. algorithmic pattern generator
  2. international space station
  3. Transl8tr

You can find all the results, videos, links, source code and images below.Take a closer look at the projects from:

Nikolas Ripka, Marta Carlesso, Laura Pau Bielsa, Daria Thies, Paul Max Klinski, Bela Kurek, Julia Freyhoff, Joshua Pacheco, Nina Komarova-Zelinskaya, Jo Swarzynska, Lucas Vogel, Wolfgang Albrecht and Dustin Kummer.

Algorithm

The task was to create an algorithm for humans and execute it several times. Iterate through the results and refine the pseudo-code. Afterwards the algorithm was ported to the P5.js programming framework and improved. Finally the students needed to find a use case for their algorithms.

Transl8tr

TRANSL8R is a chain of multilingual machines to play the Chinese whispers game with, meant to be shown in an exhibition context.

It consists of four boxes. The first box listens to the visitor's message and repeats it out loud. The second box listens to the first one and translates that message into a different language. The third and fourth one each do the same (every box speaks a different language). Finally, the first box translates the message back into the original language. In an ideal case, that message would be the same as the original one, but the little mistakes of the translation engine make for a funny ending, just as in the Chinese whispers game.
