Gesche Joost studied design at the University of Applied Science, Cologne, and completed a PhD in rhetoric at the University of Tübingen. Between 1998 and 2001 she worked as an interface designer in Cologne, Vienna and Tokyo. Between 2001 and 2003 she worked at the Department of Rhetoric at the University of Tübingen under Prof. Dr. Gert Ueding. Between 2003 and 2004 she was a visiting lecturer for design theory and media rhetoric at the KISD (Cologne International School of Design).
She is a board member of the DGTF (German Society for Design Theory and Research) and a jury member for the German National Merit Foundation. Since 2005 she is a senior design research scientist at the Deutsche Telekom Laboratories in Berlin, working on usability und interface design. In 2006 she was distinguished as one of the "100 Minds of Tomorrow” in the initiative "Germany - Land of Ideas”.
