Frank Jacob // human interface.design

Professor Frank Jacob (40) is the founder and proprietor of the Hamburg design firm human interface . design, as well as Professor of Interface Design at the Muthesius Academy in Ki el.

Upon completion of his studies in technical industrial design, Frank Jacob worked as a designer for different firms in Hamburg and Kiel, primarily on the design of technical-medical products. In addition , he was involved as operational project leader in a BMBF (German Ministry of Education and Research) research project to investigate computer-supported, cooperative work (CSCW) among designers and computer scientists.

With the goal of concentrating exclusively on Usability Engineering and Interface Design, Frank Jacob founded the company human interface.design in Hamburg in 1999. human interface.design is a design firm focusing on the usability of technical products, software applications and interactive media. With his interdisciplinary team of eight product and communication designers, computer scientists and psychologists, Frank Jacob works with clients such as   Audi, Deutsche Post, Dräger Safety, Endress+Hauser, Fraunhofer Institute, Mutabor, Otto Versand, Scholz & Friends, Siemens, Tivola, and T-Online, to name a few.

Frank Jacob began teaching winter semester, 2005, at the Muthesius Academy in Kiel and is currently working to establish Interface Design as an area of study within the Bachelors and Masters programs for Industrial Design.

Frank Jacob is married and the father of two children, Frieda (3) and Max (0).
